Our Story
It All Started with One Little Farm Kitten.
Long before Feral to Forever Cat Rescue existed, there there was a tiny tabby farm kitten, who eventually became Holly.
I didn’t know it then, but that little kitten would be my first ever rescue and instill a passion in me that has grown over time.
The First Rescue
I grew up on a family farm where stray cats were simply part of everyday life. One afternoon after school, a tiny kitten started following my brother and I home, and for many days after that.
While my parents were at work, I would quietly sneak her into the house every afternoon, making sure she was back outside before they got home.
Until one day, I got caught.
Like most determined five-year-olds, I cried, pleaded, and negotiated until my mom finally agreed that the kitten could stay... just for another hour.
That "one more hour" turned into fifteen wonderful years with Holly by my side.
Looking back now, I realize she was my very first rescue. She also unknowingly sparked a lifelong love for cats that would eventually become Feral to Forever.
Learning to Rescue
Years later, I began volunteering with another rescue organization, starting with dogs—not cats.
Then, in 2017, I took in my very first litter of foster kittens.
Within 24 hours, one of those kittens passed away.
I was absolutely heartbroken.
However, that experience, and my fosters that came afterward sparked a passion for helping the sick, vulnerable, and uncared for cats in our community.
It wasn't the start I had hoped for, but it shaped the rescuer I am today.
A Growing Mission
In 2020, I became involved in my first Trap-Neuter-Return (TNR) project at a local dairy farm. What I expected to be a small project involving a handful of cats quickly grew into rescuing and caring for dozens.
Around the same time, I began organizing regular trips to the Windsor Humane Society so people in our community could access affordable spay and neuter services for their cats.
To help coordinate everything, I created a simple Facebook group called Kelly's Cat Cab.
What started as transportation soon became so much more.
People began reaching out for help with stray cats, abandoned kittens, and colony cats. One rescue led to another, and before long, helping cats had become much more than volunteering—it had become my passion and my purpose.
Creating Feral to Forever
As Kelly's Cat Cab grew and changed, so did my vision.
I wanted to build something that focused not only on rescue, but also on prevention, education, rehabilitation, and creating lasting change for cats in our community.
That's how Feral to Forever Cat Rescue was born.
Today, we provide compassionate Trap-Neuter-Return services, foster-based rescue, rehabilitation, and thoughtful adoption. Every decision we make is guided by one simple belief:
Every cat deserves compassion, care, and the opportunity for a better life.
Looking Ahead
When I think about the future, I don't just think about the number of cats we can rescue.
I think about creating a community where fewer cats are born into unfavourable situations where they suffer from illness and disease.
I think about helping people access affordable spay and neuter services.
I think about educating our community, supporting caregivers, expanding our foster network, and creating a future where every cat has the opportunity to live a safe, healthy life.
There will always be more work to do, but I truly believe that together, we can make a lasting difference.
